The Question

Brushing my hair
I take a measured look

Brown age–spots, wart
Above left eyelid
Flabby chin
Deep furrows
Bracketing the mouth.

When I was young
I asked, as women will,
A foolish question;
‘Would you say I'm pretty?’

You took your time.
‘Well’ You pronounced at last
(But lovingly) ‘You're
Different!’
