Seen At Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Conversation — Barbara Hapworth

Two stone figures, life–size
With shoulders but no face
Tilting their heads towards each other,
Seeming to listen rather than converse.

Nyjinski Hare — Barry Flannagan

Hare leaps.
One paw kicked level
With his head,
Head high and eager,
His bronze body
Instinct with energy.
Nearby, invisible,
A soaring lark
Echoes in sound the leap
Of Nyjinski hare.

Rings — Nigel Hall

Seven rings of white wood
Tossed into air
Like a game of hoopla:
Caught in mid air
Each at its own angle
Against a bank of rhododendron.
Perched on the topmost ring,
A robin lends perspective
And sings an aural
Replica of the game.

Round pool,
Scarlet wheel and cone
Reflected in still water.
Moorhen's fanning wake
Meets the reflection.
Fleeting perfection.

Family Of Man — Barbara Hepworth

With open squares for hips
And solid squares for heads
In groups of two or three
Or solitary, the family of man
Wanders among the trees
In friendly harmony.
